10 Then the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.” 12 But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?” (Exodus 6:10-12)
Rejection and failure often leads to discouragement. Discouragement eventually leads to low self-worth. “I’m not good for anything,” you say. “I don’t deserve to… (fill in the blanks).” How often we shy away from challenging tasks just because we’re afraid of failure. Failing once, we don’t want to fail again. So we run away from all kinds of responsibilities. If forced, we might comply temporarily. But our hearts will not be committed. People see it. They comment on our lack of passion or dedication. But we turn away, justifying ourselves. We say to them, “You just don’t know how pitiful I am. I’m such a failure!” Imagine Moses, turning down God Himself. “Not me, Lord.” Have you been doing the same thing? Are you turning down God? Maybe it’s because of recent failures. Maybe you just don’t want to fail again. Perhaps what you need to do today is confess your fears to the Lord. Let Him assure you of His grace and presence. He will not leave you nor forsake you. If He commands you to do something, then He will supply the willingness and ability for you to do it. Don’t be afraid. Trust God and move forward. Begin today.
